Back to School and Fees Fees Everywhere

August 7th, 2014 at 10:01 am

Hello all!
I am a bit down today over all these school fees we are required to pay. As my blog says, I have 15 year old twins, both who play sports. We have our "team" meetings coming up, my daughter's "fee to play" will be $300, as will my son's. Another $35 each for "lab fees" and pictures next week. And as they are growing teenagers, they are eating me out of house and home.
We put our usual money in savings and college savings this month, but there won't be a ton of extra to put in additional savings. And for that, I feel guilty for some reason. Then, because of this, I go into "uber cheap" mode. Its a vicious cycle. I haven't even been to the thrift store for back to school clothes for my dauther. Son doesn't care about that. LOL
I'll just be happy when Sept. and October are here and we can get back to normal. I don't like feeling guilty. I don't even SPEND that much on other items... Sigh.

I did get a $3 pinecone and soon to cash out for $3 at Bing.

I must have patience and count my blessings.

I remember those days and empathize. You pay whether it's through school taxes to cover costs or through specific participation fees + school taxes.

Does DD baby sit or do a few hours as 'mother's helper' for earn a bit of spendables? Here teen girls get between $ 12.-$20. per hr, 2 hr. guarantee as mother's helpers. Babysitters are a sliding scale for numbers and day/evening/late night. Can DS cut grass, help neighbours with landscaping, yard care for people on vacation, or do fall yard clean up and landscaping to pay for even 10% of sport program costs? Teen years are opportunities to learn about money management and I think they are more serious when they have 'skin in the game.'
